You know, Lady Gaga's never played the Super Bowl Halftime Show? It seems like she should have by now, but the closest she's gotten is belting out the national anthem at this year's big game, where Coldplay was upstaged by Beyonce getting in "Formation."
Sources tell Billboard the Lady is in talks to perform at Super Bowl 51 next year on February 5 at NRG Stadium in Houston. The NFL was reportedly "hot" on Gaga's rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner," but the organization is characteristically playing coy.
"We have had conversations with several fantastic artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show," an NFL rep told Billboard. "However, at this point we do not have a final decision."
Gaga's been gearing up for a big, fat pop comeback after focusing her time and energy on other artistic pursuits and snatching the occasional Golden Globe, so the Super Bowl could be the perfect illusion vehicle to cement her rightful place near the top of the pop echelon.

Should the rumors prove true, would it be too much to ask for Bey to show up for yet another scene-stealing cameo so the two divas can perform a megamix of "Video Phone"/"Telephone"? After all, you can't have a concert in Houston without at least inviting Queen Bey--it's like a town ordinance, or something.
