Our peroxide pop princess is back.
Healthy escapism is needed now more than ever, as we transition out of the Obama administration and enter a new era of political uncertainty later this month. Thankfully, Swedish club queen Robyn has delivered the perfect house soundtrack for those inevitably intoxicating nights ahead, partnering with Stockholm-bred producer Mr. Tophat to create a tight three-track EP, Trust Me, slated for release this Friday, January 13 via Smalltown Supersound.
"All I know is that you're looking so dreamy to me," Robyn says slyly on "Right Time," which rounds in at more than nine minutes in length and magically complements Mr. Tophat's heady, incessant production. This single follows the EP's title track, "Trust Me"--another dark-disco, dancefloor anthem that's 10 minutes long and sees Robyn alluring a lover like an undeniable black widow. "We can make love, don't think twice," she teases in a near whisper.
Although Robyn first built a cult pop empire around her more accessible singles, from "Dancing On My Own" to "Call Your Girlfriend," the singer's recently been venturing into more innovative sonic terrain, having toured festival season this summer with a setlist of exclusive remixes and partnered with music group La Bagatelle Magique in 2015 for their Love Is Free EP. While experimental Robyn is fresh, another LP in the vein of 2010's Body Talk is long overdue.
