Award season began in earnest today as the nominees for the the 2018 Golden Globes were announced, with Luca Guadagnino's sumptuous Call Me By Your Name winning noninations for Best Picture as well as for Timothee Chalamet and Armie Hammer, the former in the Best Actor in a Motion Picture, and the latter for Best Supporting Actor. Guadagnino was not nominated in the Best Director category, although that likely won't dampen hopes for the movie's chances in the more prestigious Academy Awards.

Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon were also nominated for Best Actress in a Television Series. Nicole Kidman was nominated in the same category for Big Little Lies. Other big winners include The Crown and The Handmaid's Tale. Claire Foy and Elisabeth Moss were both nominated for their roles in those two hit shows. Both The Crown and The Handmaid's Tale were also nominated for Best Drama, alongside Stranger Things, Game of Thrones, and This is Us. For her role as tennis legend Billie Jean King in Battle of the Sexes, Emma Stone was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical, as was Margot Robbie for I, Tonya, and Saoirse Ronan for Greta Gerwig's critical fave, Lady Bird.

In a sense of late 1990s deja vu, Will & Grace was nominated for Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy, alongside Black-ish, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisal, Master of None, and Smilf. Eric McCormack was also nomainted for his role as Will Truman in Will & Grace. The show returned to NBC this year after an absence of more than ten years.

Justin Tranter, the queer musician and songwriter, was also nominated for his song "Home," featured in the animated movie Ferdinand, and sung by Nick Jonas.

The full list of winners will be chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and announced at the ceremony on January 7.
