Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri leads with four nominations.
The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards nominations have been announced today, honoring the year's best achievements in acting across film and television. And while the TV nominees are pretty much as expected, and reflective of this season's Emmy winners, the film nominees represent an unusually tight and unpredictable race toward the Oscars.
Perhaps most important to focus on are the nominees for Best Ensemble Cast: Three Billboards, Get Out, Lady Bird, Mudbound, and The Big Sick. It's the closest the SAG awards get to a Best Picture category, and is particularly of interest because a film has not won Best Picture at the Oscars without being nominated for Best Ensemble in 22 years. This is in large part because most of the actors branch of the Academy--which is solely responsible for selecting acting nominees and heavily involved in selecting Best Picture nominees--are members of SAG.
Notably, Steven Spielberg's The Post did not receive any nominations, even for Meryl Streep of Tom Hanks. Lady Bird was the only film besides Three Billboards to receive more than two nominations at all.
On the TV side of things, to our delight and no one's surprise, Big Little Lies, Feud, and Stranger Things all dominated. Take a look at the full list below:
