Max Malanaphy, who appeared on season seven of RuPaul's Drag Race, has begun rolling out a queer web series, where he subverts the archetypal hyper-masculine protagonist seen in most mainstream action films. His three-part project, called Agent Max, was created in close collaboration with director John Mark and filmed entirely in the pair's Minneapolis home city to prove that femme characters can be leaders, fighters and saviors without the presence of a man.

The first episode of Agent Max was released this past Saturday, and sees Malanaphy playing a glamorous vigilante who takes on saving the Twin Cities from a villain who wreaks havoc under the nickname, "TF," for "Trust Fund." When "sciencey" things start going missing in the city, speculation surges that TF is creating "some sort of weapon." Agent Max agrees to take down TF, but only if he can "do it alone"--a demand that highlights the independent power of queer femmes.
