As season nine of RuPaul's Drag Race is upon us, we can expect to see America's drag superstar take over our televisions once again. Although we may know him as the face of queer television, RuPaul has a much more colorful past.

That past is the subject of a new series currently being shopped around. Executive produced by Ru alongside JJ Abrams and written by Gary Lennon, it will follow young RuPaul Charles during the '80s. The fictional depiction of his early career includes his rise in the New York club scene to his current status as drag superstar.
