Bob the Drag Queen leads a hilarious cast of queens.
Bob the Drag Queen recently announced he's making his acting debut in the upcoming film, Cherry Pop. He stars alongside some of our favorite Drag Race alums, like Tempest Dujour and Detox, in the film from writer Nick Landa and director Assaad Yacoub. The movie is based on a 2013 short of the same name by the filmmaking duo.
Bob reprises his role as Kitten Withawhip, a performer at failing local drag bar. When Lady Zaza (Dujour), the bar's star queen refuses to come out for her final performance, chaos ensues among the rest of the staff. Meanwhile, a new performer (Lars Berge) prepares to give his first show.
The first trailer for the film promises a gay old time with bitch slapping, wig snatching and lap dancing. Yacoub's stylized eye is somewhat reminiscent of Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet, which is perfectly complemented by the camp of a drag-studded cast.
Cherry Pop premieres June 19 at New York Pride as part of OutCinema presented by NewFest and NYC Pride at the SVA Theatre. It's followed by a July 11 screening in San Francisco and a Los Angeles premiere to be announced.
