Fictional Roseanne is rolling in her grave.
Laurie Metcalf is about to take on the role of a lifetime. And no, we're not talking about reviving Billy Loomis' mom for another Scream sequel.
She and John Lithgow will star as Hillary and Bill Clinton in an upcoming Broadway play. Hillary and Clinton is set during the 2008 Democratic primaries, as Hillary and her chief strategist, Mark J. Penn decide whether bringing Bill into the campaign will be a liability or an asset. The play explores the complexities of marriage.
It also features Barack Obama as an unnamed fourth character, referred to as "The Other Guy."
Written by Lucas Hnath, the play will be produced by Scott Rudin and directed by Joe Mantello, the team behind this summer's The Boys in the Band. Hillary and Clinton premiered at Chicago's Victory Gardens Theater in 2016, but has been substantially reworked since then.
Hillary and Clinton begins previews March 16, opening April 18 at a Broadway theater yet to be announced.
