Cameron Monaghan Announces Exit from Shameless
He's played gay character, Ian Gallagher since the show premiered in 2011.
Since the show premiered in 2011, we've enjoyed watching Cameron Monaghan's journey as the gay middle child, Ian Gallagher unfold on Showtime's Shameless. But the actor has just announced via an Instagram post that he will be exiting the show, with tthe next episode being his last.
"The next episode will be my last," he writes in the caption. "I have known since last year, but I didn't want to give it away too early as I wanted this season to be a surprise for the audience, allowing them to experience Ian's unsure journey with his character. This role has been a joy to inhabit, a wild and special ride, and I'd like to thank #Shameless as well as you, the viewers, for being there with him. Goodbye, Ian Clayton Gallagher. We'll meet again?"
In the current season, Ian has entered an insanity plea as he faces 10 to 15 years in jail. While the character suffers from bipolar disorder, he'd recently led a religious uprising, in which he became known as "Gay Jesus." His fate will be revealed in the October 14 episode.
Monaghan follows star Emmy Rossum, who plays the oldest Gallagher sibling, Fiona. Rossum recently announced her exit from the show as well.
