Lea DeLaria Doesn't Want You Calling Her A Lesbian
"I am a dyke! Get it right. I don’t do that alphabet, LGBTQ thing."
Lea DeLaria doesn't want to be called a "lesbian woman," which comedian Jay Leno quickly learned after introducing the actress at the exclusive Hudson River Park Gala.
"You don't have to say lesbian woman. It's implied," The Orange is the New Black star shouted from the audience.
Later in the evening, Leno went on to call DeLaria a lesbian again, to which she interjected, "I am not a lesbian! I am a dyke! Get it right. I don't do that alphabet, LGBTQ thing. By the time you get to all of those letters, the parade is over!"
DeLaria has previously been outspoken about the numerous letters being added to the LGBT acronym, the current full status of which is LGBTQQIAAP2+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, ally, pansexual, two-spirit).
Previously, DeLaria said, "Part of me believes that this inclusivity of calling us the LGBTQQTY-whatever-LMNOP tends to stress our differences, and that's why I refuse to do it. I say queer. Queer is everybody."
She continued, "This is the biggest issue we have in the queer community to date and will continue to be the biggest issue until we learn to accept our differences, and that's the issue."
