Mac Comes Out to Father Through a Heartfelt Dance in 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" Season Finale

After years of being an obsessive fan, I never in my wildest dreams imagined that It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia would make me cry. But here we are, in the finale of season 13, and the show's done just that.

Mac, who's played by the show creator Rob Mcelhenney, previously came out last season, however, he hadn't yet come out to his father, who's a terrifying homicidal maniac currently in prison.

In the season finale-- "Mac Finds his Pride" -- the only gay member of the gang comes out to his father, in the prison, through a beautifully choreographed dance with professional ballet dancer Kylie Shea.

Prior to the show-stopping scene, there's uncharacteristically sincere dialogue. Like when Mac admits to Frank (Danny DeVito), "I don't know where I fit in as a gay man, and it's starting to get to me. I'm not feeling very proud."

Frank repeatedly claims not "getting" what the whole "gay thing" is about, but nevertheless, wants to support his friend.

After Frank attempts to help Mac by taking him to a leather play party and then a drag bar, Mac says he needs to figure things out -- and that includes come out to his father -- in his own way.

This is what leads to the moving interpretive dance in the rain, where Mac truly wears his heart on his sleeve.

That's when Frank finally "gets it."
