HBO is trading up from Lena Dunham to Lena Waithe. The creator of The Chi and star of Master of None is co-executive producing half-hour comedy series with YouTube sensation, Kid Fury.
According to Variety, the show follows Greg, "a 20-something sarcastic gay black man navigating adulthood and responsibility in New York City while struggling to wrap his head around his undiagnosed clinical depression." If that's not HBO gold, I don't know what is.
Fury (AKA Gregory A Smith) is known for such YouTube videos as Shit Black Gays Say and his Furious Thoughts series, for which he tours with a live stand-up show. He appeared in a guest role on Netflix's Dear White People. And he co-hosts the cultural podcast, The Read with with Crissle West, which also tours with a live show.
Waithe is also experiencing a steady glow-up. When she's not rocking rainbows on red carpets, she's working on several shows in development. She serves as executive producer on TBS's upcoming series, Twenties and a horror anthology series entitled THEM, which has just recieved a two-season order from Amazon. Her script, Queen & Slim is also going into production with Universal, which will star Daniel Kaluuya.
