Sam Smith Facing Backlash After Michael Jackson Comments
“I don’t like Michael Jackson, but this is a good song,” he said.
An amiable weekend outing with Adam Lambert to Catalina Island is turning into a week of negative backlash after Sam Smith expressed his dislike towards the late Michael Jackson's music.
In a now deleted post from his Instagram, Lambert filmed Smith admitting he did not like Michael Jackson, but that he enjoyed the Jackson song that was playing in the background. Thereafter, Lambert quickly ends the video while the brief astonishment of others is overheard.
"I don't like Michael Jackson, but this is a good song," Smith said.
The video eventually caught wind of some people close to Jackson and his music, including the son of older brother, Tito Jackson.
“Sam Smith made a career on singing R&B/soul music. So to look into a camera and disregard one of its pillars is ignorant, disrespectful and arrogant. Everyone has opinions but @samsmithworld don’t disparage a soul pioneer when they helped paved the way for you and your music. 🤫”— TJ Jackson (@TJ Jackson) 1534170559
An Instagram post from original The Wiz star Stephanie Mills reacted more strongly to Smith's words about Mills former lover, going so far as to call Smith a "1 HIT WONDER."
Smith has not yet released a statement regarding his comments. However, he is currently heading to Minnesota to return to the American leg of his tour in support of his sophomore album, The Thrill of It All.
