'Bewitched' is coming back!
It was recently announced that the classic 1960s sitcom, Bewitched is recieving a reboot with ABC Studios and Sony Pictures Television. The original show followed a young witch who fell in love. Hilarity ensued as she attempted to juggle marriage, motherhood, and witchcraft.
The reboot comes at the helm of Black-ish creator, Kenya Barris. The updated version will center on a hard-working, single, black mom named Samantha who falls in love with a white slacker named Darren. The classic witch/mortal dynamic will show how even literal #blackgirlmagic doesn't hold as much power as a "decently tall white man with a full head of hair in America."
As if that contemporary twist wasn't enough to pique our interest, we can't help but wonder how the new adaptation will handle the character of Uncle Arthur. Originally portrayed by Paul Lynde, the eccentric warlock was always implied to be gay, although his sexuality was not directly referenced - as Lynde appeared to be in his personal life. For the reboot, we're hoping Barris takes the opportunity to update the Uncle Arthur character with a proudly queer person of color. Who says the role should be limited to a gay man?
Here are a few performers who we'd like to see take over the iconic role--or just cast in general on the show!
