The special issue brings out the queer side of Sin City.
If there's one city in the United States that has reached Peak Gay, its Las Vegas. The glitzy, grimy, and somehow-still glamorous paradise in the middle of the Nevada desert (that also happens to be my hometown) has always been an obsession in pop culture and been a solace for the LGBTQ community, which is why Paper Magazine packed their bags and created a special edition Las Vegas issue centered around Sin City.
Pushing aside the obvious focus on Chippendales and Britney Spears residencies, Paper created four separate cover features to highlight the breadth of queer talent pulsing through The Strip in this year. J. Lo, Mariah Carey, Ricky Martin and the Backstreet Boys are all performing in special residencies in the city this year and have become the focus of four profiles in the magazine.
That's not the only card up their sleeves, though. Throughout the special issue, Paper had David Copperfield walk them through his museum of magic; they checked out the over-the-top houses of Holly Madison and Steve Aoki; and even had RuPaul's Drag Race winner Violet Chachki transforms herself into a Vegas showgirl. It all adds up to a stacked, fabulous exploration of the queer side of Las Vegas that you need to see to believe.
