HBO announced that Janelle Monae and Kim Petras are headlining its first-ever digital Pride event taking place this month on their Human By Orientation site. Daily virtual events start this Thursday, June 18, and run through Sunday, June 28, and programming includes a drag brunch, plenty of big-name musical headliners, underground DJ sets, a queer comedy night, and more. All of the events are free.
The festivities start Thursday night with notorious L.A. house party organizers Por Detroit x Ostbahnhof, then there's a special live Juneteenth musical celebration from Todrick Hall on Friday.
"I am very excited to perform a one-of-a-kind set that not only celebrates Pride, but also lands on this hallowed day in the black community," said Hall. "Especially now, it's so important for black queer artists to have our voices heard. I'm so thankful to HBO for this platform."
Shangela, Bob the Drag Queen and Eureka O'Hara of HBO's We're Here -- which was recently renewed for a second season -- will host a drag brunch on Saturday, and the party keeps going from there. There's a Drag Queen Story Hour, a vogue class with some of your favorite stars from HBO Max's Legendary, dance parties, comedy, and more continuing into the next weekend's grand finale.
The final weekend celebrates queer and trans people of color through art and music. Friday features Papi Juice, then on Saturday Kim Petras gives a special hour-long performance. It all culminates on Sunday, June 28, with an intimate performance from Ms. Janelle Monae.
"Pride has always been very important to us at HBO, now more than ever," said Jackie Gagne, Vice President, Multicultural Marketing at HBO. "Black lives matter, Black trans lives matter, Black queer lives matter. Our goal of Human By Orientation has always been to help the community celebrate their proudest and queerest selves."
HBO's Human By Orientation Pride takes begins Saturday, June 18, and runs through Sunday, June 28. The event is free and can be accessed on the Human By Orientation site.
