Gays ... where do they come from? It's time we found out.
In a clip that went viral on social media over the weekend, Orthodox bishop Neophytos Masouras claimed that gay people are born when pregnant women have anal sex.
"[Homosexuality] happens during the parent's intercourse or pregnancy. It follows an unnatural sexual act between the parents," Masouras said while speaking at a primary school in Cyprus, The Sunreports. "To be more clear, anal sex. [St Porphyrios] says that when the woman enjoys that, a desire is created, and then the desire is passed on to the child."
At first, I thought the whole thing was stupid -- just another ignorant church leader abusing his platform to spew homophobic nonsense.
But then I wondered: Were points made? To be honest, I don't know where gays come from. I thought they happened when two people who love each other very much (and also can't drive) bone each other, P-in-V style. But I'm not a doctor. Who am I to say? Utterly lost, I turned to a medical expert for answers.
"I can confirm that the only kind of sex that makes someone gay requires being born first and identifying as such," says Lola Pellegrino, a New York-based nurse practitioner specializing in sexual and reproductive health.
So, there you have it. Gays don't happen when pregnant women have anal sex. Gays happen when gays have sex with gays. Those aforementioned gays might happen to be pregnant women and they might happen to be having anal sex, but correlation doesn't whatever causation etc., etc.
And that concludes this Out investigation. We sure learned a lot, perhaps. One GLAAD Media Award, please!
