UPDATE (4/2/2020): The Grabby Awards are going online! And of all the ceremonies, this "Golden Globes of gay porn," which an organizer once described to Out as " 80 percent fans and 20 percent industry," they seem perfect for it.
"Please note due to the coronavirus we cannot hold a show in a theater or a bar this year," organizers wrote to their site. "However [we] have something in the works ... GRABBYS 2020 will be livestreamed. We will be posting more details as we work them out. Check back Friday, May 8th for our exciting announcement."
The event has historically always happened during the same weekend as International Mr Leather. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, IML has moved their annual weekend to September 24-27 2020, with what they say will be downsized festivities.

ORIGINAL (3/19/2020): In May, gays can look forward to a lot of things: it's spring time so the weather is nice and brunch season is in full swing. It's a relative calm before the storm that is Pride season. Oh, and there's that weekend in Chicago.
For years, Memorial Day Weekend has brought thousands of gay men into Chicago for two event: International Mr. Leather and the Grabby Awards. This year, COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus, has IML reconsidering things, having released a statement earlier this week saying that they "need additional time to explore all logistical options that will allow for a safe 2020 IML-IMBB Weekend, whether in May or another date." As for the Grabby's, the award show that's affectionately called the "Golden Globes of gay porn," things are pressing forward.
"Please note due to the coronavirus we have decided to hold off details about this year's show," organizers wrote to the show's website. "We will have a show, it's just a matter of what size venue we will be holding it in. We are hoping to have an update by Wednesday, April 1st." Kind of wild when you think about it.
The award show, this year, boasts a whopping 27 category with Best Actor, Performer of the Year, Best Director, Hottest Rimming, and Hottest Daddy among them. Last year they celebrated their 10th annual event.
"What sets the Grabby's apart from other porn shows is we are 80 percent fans and 20 percent industry and most of the other shows are the reverse in terms of attendance," event producer Stacy Bridges told Out at the time. "I feel like the porn stars actually feel like a celebrity when they come." Leading up to the 2019 iteration, it was unclear whether or not things would continue as one of the producers, Mark Nagel, had died. Bridges announced onstage that things would press on, later telling Out that it was because of the enthusiasm for the weekend that he changed his mind.
