Apple Adds Rainbow Flag Emoji for Pride

Rejoice! Now iPhone owners can text with pride after Apple announced a new rainbow flag emoji. (Sorry, Android).

The company announced the new emoji as part of the most recent software update. The update also includes more female athletes and professionals.

While rainbows have already been a colorful part of the emoji family, the actual rainbow flag--the symbol of the LGBT movement--has been conspicuously missing.

Others have advocated for more socially conscious emojis to promote diversity among younger generations. Durex has called for a condom emoji to make conversations about safe sex easier.
