Barbra Streisand made a cameo on last night's episode of Modern Family, or at least her instantly recognizable voice did.
The Dunphy kids, having forgotten their Uncle Mitchell's birthday, take him on a roundabout trip through Los Angeles, eventually ending up at what they think is Streisand's house.
Turns out it's Ray Liotta's house and that Babs only lived there for a few weeks back in the day, but Ray keeps getting her mail. Liotta, stymied by the kids' ignorance of him and his career but inspired by their dedication to Mitch (he had a "funny uncle," too) takes them over to Streisand's real house.
Of course, Mitchell, as a huge Babs Streisand fan, should've known that Liotta's little shack wasn't the diva's home, which she insanely details in My Passion for Design.
There was even a play inspired by her, her home and that particular book, Buyer & Cellar. Mitch should've known something was up as soon as they pulled up and didn't see a New England barn in the middle of Malibu.
But I digress.
When they finally do make it to Streisand's, Mitch queens out--as any gay would.
But Babs lets Mitch know that she's just your average, run-of-the-mill, ordinary, two-time Oscar-winning legend.
Mitchell's dreams of having Babs sing "Happy Birthday" to him, however, sadly went unfulfilled.
Nice try, Liotta.
