After a season cliffhanger, a cryptic tweet has fans wondering where the breakout star is headed next.
Warning: Spoilers ahead!
Empire previews leading up to Wednesday's episode warned viewers that no Lyon was safe.
But fans were still shocked to see Jamal (Jussie Smollett) take a bullet for his mogul father Luscious (Terrence Howard). Especially after earlier in the episode when Luscious turns vicious on his gay son, saying, "The day you die from AIDS, I'm gonna celebrate."
The season's penultimate episode ended with Jamal raced into surgery.

Smollett stocked fears that this may be the end for Jamal after posting a tweet Thursday that sounded like a goodbye to the show.
“I've thoroughly enjoyed my time w/ @EmpireFOX. I love you all. Truth. Time 2 make a record & some movies. #Empire 🌹”— Jussie Smollett (@Jussie Smollett) 1463029293
However, in Fox's description of next week's season finale, "Past is Prologue," Jamal is set to make an appearance.
"After a life-changing experience, Jamal refuses to make music until his family ends its seemingly endless cycle of violence and fighting," the site says.
Does that hint at an end to Smollett's run on the show?
The 32-year-old openly gay performer and Out cover star tweeted from Sydney, where he's filming for Alien: Covenant.
