Exclusive: Trans Man Daniel Comes Out to His Family in Latest Secret Lives of Americans

Daniel, a young trans man, will be featured on Friday's episode of the confessional docu-series Secret Lives of Americans.

He lives in New York City, where he relishes the anonymity afforded him in the bustling urban environment. Daniel has recently started transitioning from female to male, but no one back home in small-town Texas knows of this new chapter in his life. "It's not something I've always known, but it's something I've always felt," Daniel says.

In this candid and emotionally frank episode, Daniel wrestles with his fears of coming out as trans to his parents and other loved ones. While it isn't always easy, Daniel's story shows that determination and conviction help in even the most trying of situations, and that it does, in fact, get better.

Pivot's Secret Lives of Americans features citizens across the country as they let TV cameras their lives that have remained secret. Debt, depression, and addiction are some of the areas covered. The takeaway of the show is, if secrets are brought out into the light, they can do much less harm.

Daniel's episode of Secret Lives of Americans airs 10 p.m. Eastern on Pivot.
