The Heathers Reboot Takes on #MeToo In New Clip

The Heathers Reboot Takes on #MeToo In New Clip

The series will finally air as a five-night binge event.

Once thought to be dead in the water, the Heathers reboot is less than a week away from its Paramount Network debut and a new clip puts the title's satirical, dark humor spin on a #MeToo type moment.

In the clip we see Betty Finn (Nikki SooHoo) at the local police station detailing an attempted sexual assault encounter with JD where the police officer questioning her and even her parents are dubious about her story. Echoing the unfortunate state of contemporary sexual assault, where the accusers and victims are often blamed in the incidents, Betty's attractiveness is raised as a point of doubt as to why JD would want to sexually assault her, and her outfit is blamed for making him think a sexual advance was warranted.

Originally slated to return in the same dark, violent vein as its cult classic predecessor, the Heathers series was first delayed due to its original release date being around the time of the Parkland, Florida shooting - which spurred the March For Our Lives movement - back in February. The series was then shelved indefinitely after calls of poor taste and bad timing were echoed across the internet.

Now, after some editing in episode five and the combination of the last two episodes to create a cliffhanger, Heathers will premiere on the Paramount Network for a limited five-night run starting October 25. Watch, below.
