Helen Mirren to Co-Star With Jason Clarke in 'Catherine the Great'

Oscar winner Helen Mirren will star opposite Mudbound's Jason Clarke in an upcoming Catherine The Great miniseries for HBO and Sky, reports Deadline.

The show is written by Elizabeth I's Nigel Williams and directed by the BAFTA and Emmy winning Philip Martin, who worked on The Crown, Mo, and Prime Suspect.

Catherine the Great follows the monarch through her politically and sexually complex court as the empress of Russia, where she held power for nearly half of the entrie 18th century.

The four part miniseries is also executive produced by Mirren, and will follow Catherine through the later years of her life, as she engages in an affair with Russian military officer Grigory Potemkin (Clarke).
