'Steven Universe' Season 6 Is Coming and It Looks Amazing

Steven Universe: Future opening

The award winning show just announced the news at New York Comic Con.

When Steven Universe: The Moviecame out, it seemed like a fitting end to the story. We jumped two years into the future, and saw the Diamonds learning to be better people (or alien rocks). We saw our beloved Crystal Gems living their life in Beach City. But as creator Rebecca Sugar indicated before the film debuted, there's more to tell. Today, Cartoon Network announced a new, sixth season of the show, called Steven Universe: Future.

Debuted at the Steven Universe panel at New York Comic Con, the description for the new season is "After saving the universe, Steven is still at it, tying up every loose end. But as he runs out of other people's problems to solve, he'll finally have to face his own." The announcement came pegged to the release of a brand new title sequence for the Peabody Award-winning show, and there's so much packed into it.

In the new, beautifully animated 26-second-clip we see not just Steven, Garnet, Pearl, and Amethyst harmonizing together on a tune based on the "Happily Ever After" song Steven and the Gems sang in the movie, but Bismuth, Peridot and Lapis are there was well.

The off-color gems are living in Beach City! Steven still has a neck! And he can drive!! Sadie has a cool new ponytail and Onion, of course, looks exactly the same as he did the first time we saw him.

As for villains now that the Diamonds and Spinel aren't threats, we get a look at Jasper and Aquamarine, but the rest seem new. There are two Lapis Lazulis!? And a monster made out of living Steven cactuses!! And a White-Diamond-looking pink character? And a giant worm with horns and tusks??

The clip ends with Steven and the original Crystal Gems sitting on the beach with Greg, Connie, Bismuth, Lapis and Peridot, who comes a long way from learning what music way back in season two and sings the final line of the theme song.

There's so much to analyze and we haven't even seen any actual footage of the new season yet. This is a bright, bright future.
