Kate McKinnon Will Save Pussies as Exotic Cat Lady in New Hulu Show
‘Joe Exotic’ is based on a popular podcast.
Kate McKinnon, who must be experiencing some rather extreme back pain from carrying Saturday Night Live, has a new role lined up that is basically the most perfectly Kate McKinnon part ever. The actress will play a cat lady who sets out to take down an exotic animal breeder.
According to Variety, McKinnon is set to star in TV's Joe Exotic as Carole Baskin, who "learns that fellow exotic animal lover, Joe 'Exotic' Schreibvogel is breeding and using his big cats for profit." The entertainment magazine reports, "She sets out to shut down his venture, inciting a quickly escalating rivalry. But Carole has a checkered past of her own, and when the claws come out, Joe will stop at nothing to expose her hypocrisy. The results prove deadly."
Joe Exotic is being developed by Universal Content Productions, and the show will be adapted from the Wondery podcast of the same name. It will be McKinnon's second TV show based on a podcast. It was previously announced that McKinnon will play Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, the billion-dollar scammer and subject of the HBO documentary The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley, in a Hulu show based on the ABC Radio podcast The Dropout.
McKinnon is currently in her sixth season as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, for which she's won two supporting actress Emmys. Before the year is out, she'll appear in Oscar contender Bombshell (about the women at Fox News who accused Roger Ailes of sexualmisconduct) alongside Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, and Margot Robbie.
