Sis, please pause your Golden Girls marathon because there's some serious news related to the show. No, Betty White is still alive. Whew, I was scared for a second, too. Nope, this is good news!
Fresh off an Emmy win for her guest role on Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Jane Lynch announced this weekend that she'd recently sold a show she calls "a Golden Girls for today." So, all right, it sounds like it's not actually a reboot, but still. Thank you for being a friend, Jane. And the kicker? She sold the show to Netflix with none other than Cyndi Lauper. How do they even know each other?
"We're our age," Lynch explained. "I'm almost 60 and she's 65, and we're looking for our next act, without ever having had husbands of children." So it's Grace & Frankie but with more homoerotic undertones. Lynch added that "there will be two other people who haven't been cast yet." Pretty sure the only surviving Golden Girl, Betty White, is available. She can still play 60, right?
Writer and comedian Carol Leifer is also involved in the project, which she confirmed on Facebook earlier this summer. "It's official, heading out next with a new half-hour comedy, starring Jane Lynch and Cyndi Lauper," she said. "A writer's dream to work with these two legends. Can't wait to see where we land..."
Netflix has not yet confirmed the show, but it sounds like a done deal at this point. Now which one of them is going to be the slutty one...
