American Horror Storystar Billie Lourd announced on Thursday that she'll be guest starring on an upcoming episode of Will & Grace, playing a character related to one her late grandmother, Debbie Reynolds, played. Cue Whitney Houston's "So Emotional."
Reynolds famously played Grace Adler's (Debra Messing) overbearing, showtune-belting mother during the series' original run. Following her death in 2016, the show paid her tribute in an episode of the revival series, and now Lourde, her actual granddaughter, will star as her onscreen granddaughter.
"I have watched and loved Will & Grace since I was (probably too) young," Lourd wrote on Instagram. "So getting to watch my Grandma play Grace's mom was one of the coolest things to happen to my young willandgraceobsessed self. Next week I get to play my real life grandma's onscreen granddaughter on one of my favorite shows and there are not enough happy adjectives in the world to convey the excitement I feel." She went on to thank the show's stars and creators for "bringing me into the Adler fam."
Lourd's character, Diona, will reconnect with Grace, her "cool aunt," on the show. Executive producer Max Mutchnick told Deadline the episode is "especially meaningful because of Billie's relationship to the show...We're thrilled to have Billie. And best of all -- she's really good."
Lourd joins the show amid rumors of on-set tension between stars Messing and Megan Mullally, which Erick McCormack (who plays Will) told US Weekly are "crazy," adding that the show's stars "get along like a house on fire, we always have."
The revival's third and final season returns to NBC this fall.
