Plus, sparks are flying between this new character and Dr. Amelia Shepherd!

E.R. Fightmaster is making Grey's Anatomy history!

The nonbinary actor is joining the cast of ABC's long-running medical drama series a recurring member: Dr. Kai Bartley, the show's first nonbinary doctor. The character made their debut on the show in the most recent episode "Hotter Than Hell," and in the episode, Bartley meets and instantly bonds with Dr. Amelia Shepherd while the two work together on Parkinson's research in Minnesota.

"They are dedicated to their craft and extremely talented at what they do," reads the character description from ABC about Kai. "Confident as hell and able to make even the most detailed and mundane science seem exciting and cool, Kai and Amelia bond over their shared love of medicine and the brain."

Fans picked up on the chemistry between the two doctors immediately, and while Dr. Shepherd has never been in a queer relationship in the series, she wouldn't be the first character to come out after having been on the show for a while. This is one ship we'd love to see set sail!

Grey's is taking a few weeks off, but Dr. Bartley will return in the November 11 episode when the show comes back and will appear in several more episodes before the midseason finale.

Before appearing on Grey's Anatomy, Fightmaster starred in seasons 2 and 3 of Shrill and also appeared in Work in Progress.

While Dr. Bartley will be the first nonbinary doctor on the series, nonbinary actor Sara Ramirez played bisexual, cisgender character Dr. Callie Torres on the show, one of the most iconic bisexual characters in TV history. Additionally, trans actor Alex Blue Davis played surgical resident Casey Parker in seasons 14-16.
