RuPaul Gets Upstaged by James Corden in 2021 Paramount Super Bowl Ad

RuPaul and James Corden in Paramount ad

Truly a blink and you'll miss it cameo.

It's that time again: time for Super Bowl ads.

With the Super Bowl on Sunday, companies are releasing their much-anticipated (and highly-financed) spots that are set to air during the big game. So far this year, M&M, as well as Logitech, have tapped queer names like Dan Levy and Lil Nas X to play roles in their clips. Now comes Paramount with its entry.

The idea behind the commercial is simple: they have gathered stars of shows that are now available on Paramount Picture's streaming service Paramount+ on the peak of their logo's mountain. There, they have a little cocktail party hosted by Patrick Stewart. Gathered in the gorup are the likes of Gayle King, Tom Selleck from Blue Bloods, and more. There is a truly blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment of RuPaul, who has no lines in the advertisement. While the Queen of Drag is a literal blip on the screen, its the Golden Globe-nominated James Corden, recently put up for an award after a truly out-of-touch portrayal of a gay man in Netflix's The Prom, who gets more than enough screen time. This is also just a part of what is undoubtedly RuPaul's most visible point in her career. Currently, the longtime host is in New Zealand filming RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under. That filming is happening as RuPaul's Drag Race and RuPaul's Drag Race U.K. are airing. And we mustn't forget her last ad campaign: a pretty amazing series of video spots and an Instagram TV series (which has now been deleted) for Old Navy over the holiday season.

Where will Mama Ru turn up next?
