"You did what needed to be done!"
Apparently season of HBO Max's ballroom competition Legendary did exactly that, and now the show is headed back for its second season. Legendary made ballroom history as the first competition to ever award a $100,000 grand prize. Last year, with production set on the East Coast, the show did just that giving all the dough to the House of Balmain. Now, the show's back, back, back in action now-based in Los Angeles. And there's ten new ballroom houses vying for the top slot.
This season returns with judges Jameela Jamil, Leiomy Maldonado, Law Roach, and Megan Thee Stallion. Dashaun Wesley also returns as the emcee and host. A trailer, which premiered to day, shows they are all bringing the looks for the panel in order to judge 10 houses. Guest judges will include Tiffany Haddish, Taraji P. Henson, Amiyah Scott, Nicco Annan, Normani, Adam Lambert, and Demi Lovato.
And the lineup for the cast is honestly kind of gaggy if you know the scene.
Legendary fans will know at least one of the new contestants: Honey Balenciaga, who comes this season alongside her full house, made her Legendary debut last season in a battle that will never be forgotten. But old school fans of ballroom in the limelight might also remember Prince Miyake-Mugler who joined Wesley and Maldonado as a part of Vogue Evolution on America's Best Dance Crew. That was a full decade ago.
Those details make those respective teams ones to watch. Shannon Balenciaga, the mother of the house, is a face diva and has others like Kalik Balenciaga on their team as well. Mugler is truly the heavy hitters: in addition to Prince, there's Tati who appeared on Viceland's My House and is a former Out100 honoree. Malik Miyake-Mugler is known as the "King of Twist," once earned a title as the "Legend Slayer," and also appeared in an issue of Out in 2019. Then there's Arturo Miyake-Mugler, who is leading the house -- he's known as "the architect" within ballroom meaning his whole world is making the kind of productions that do well on Legendary. We aren't saying the deck is stacked, but we aren't not saying that!
Other notables include the House of Comme Des Garcon which is headed by Stasha Garcon. Stasha made her name within the scene but even outside of that, being crowned Miss Continental in 2018. Some might also know Simone Tisci as the makeup artist JapaneseFaces. Yes, it's a stacked cast this season.
Season two of Legendary will premiere on May 6. The show will air on HBO Max.
