Did This Loki Disney+ Teaser Just Confirm His Gender Fluidity?

LGBTQ+ Marvel stans really know how to pay attention to detail!

Will different sides to Norse trickster Loki's sexuality and gender identity finally be explored in his upcoming, self-titled, solo Disney+ series? According to a fact pointed out by some dedicated Marvel stans with an extreme eye for detail, it looks likely!

In anticipation of the release of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's third Disney+ series, which is due out later this week and is already getting some good, early buzz from critics, a social media teaser was released featuring some exclusive clips of the show.

Though the teaser is literally less than 20 seconds long, it features a case file on our beloved antihero (portrayed famously by British actor Tom Hiddleston), and in it, it states that Loki's sex is fluid.

While it is, quite literally, a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment in an 18-second teaser, it was enough to get Marvel fans who have been eagerly and patiently waiting for years for some explicit LGBTQ+ representation hyped up on social media.

Since rumors have been swirling over the past few months that the series could be using multiple actors to play multiple versions (and ages) of Thor's mischievous AF sibling, some fans pointed out that this is a small confirmation that Lady Loki (one of Loki's various alternate versions who is canonically genderfluid and pansexual in the comics) is finally making her way to the small screen!

Calls for Marvel Studios and Disney+ to explore Loki's many different sides have been circulating since late last year, and we first learned about Loki getting his own solo series during Marvel Studios' Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, but considering the long history big studios have had with straight-washing queer comic characters for the big screen many people didn't have high hopes that Loki's confirmed queerness in the comics would ever make its way onto our TV sets.

While it is just a very small moment in a teaser, it's definitely a small step towards inclusivity that Marvel's loyal fanbase has been dying to finally see, so the excitement about Loki is definitely real, and we can't wait to see how it all pans out when the show finally hits streaming!

Loki premieres this Wednesday, June 9 on Disney+!
