Busy Philipps' oldest child Birdie Silverstein is taking a cue from their mom and stepping into an acting role. The nonbinary 12-year-old is set to make their acting debut in Gloria Calderon Kellett's upcoming Amazon series With Love.
Silverstein will be playing a nonbinary recurring character, but not much else is known about the role at this time.
Calderon Kellett tweeted about the news, saying, "More casting news. I first met Birdie when they were a baby. It is thrilling that I now get to have them on my little show."
Philipps first shared with the world that her child is nonbinary on her podcast Busy Philipps Is Doing Her Best at the end of 2020. In the episode, she revealed that she had been misgendering her child when talking about them on the podcast, and that she wouldn't do that anymore.
"I said, 'You know Bird, I've been doing a bad job with the pronouns,' because Birdie said that they would like their pronouns to be they/them and I haven't been doing it, I said, because I have this public persona and I want Birdie to be in control of their own narrative and not have to answer to anybody outside of our friends and family if they don't want to," she said.
Birdie then told her that they are cool with their mom publicly discussing their gender and pronouns.
Calderon Kellett is perhaps best known as the creator of the One Day At a Time reboot, which focused on a Cuban-American family living in Los Angeles. The show featured Elena, a queer teen, who was hailed for her characterization and storylines as a queer Latina.
Her upcoming series, With Love, follows the Diaz siblings, Lily and Jorge, "who are on a mission to find love and purpose" as they "cross paths with seemingly unrelated residents during some of the most heightened days of the year -- the holidays." The series stars Emeraude Tobia and Mark Indelicato.
Recently, When They See Us star Isis King was also added to the cast. She'll be playing Sol Perez, Lily and Jorge's cousin, who, according to Deadline is "a trans nonbinary oncology resident who is finally opening themselves up to love with a handsome doctor they work with."
That doctor, Dr. Miles Murphy, is "a reconstructive plastic surgeon with a good heart who has eyes for Sol Perez," and will be played by Todd Grinnell, who starred in One Day At a Time as Schneider.
With Love is going to be a one-hour romantic comedy, and will air on Amazon Prime. It also stars Rome Flynn from How to Get Away With Murder and Desmond Chaim from The Falcon & The Winter Soldier.
