Are we about to see to see a gay vampire romance on What We Do in the Shadows?
That seems to be the direction things are heading this season, as Guillermo, the lovable familiar turned badass vampire hunter and bodyguard, seems to be realizing he has feelings for Nandor, the vampire who was his master. And Nandor might be slowly realizing he has feelings too!
Harvey Guillen, the amazing, hilarious, and hunky actor who plays Guillermo, is queer in real life, and fans have been begging for Gayermo to become a thing on the show. And now, it seems our patience may be paying off!
In episode two, "The Cloak of Duplication," Guillermo uses a magical artifact to disguise himself as Nandor, hoping to woo the human girl Nandor has a crush on but is too shy to ask out. Instead, as this fake Nandor describes his relationship with Guillermo, leading the crush to think that Nandor is asking for advice on how to ask out Guillermo.
While Guillermo is insistent that that's not what's happening, she can tell that he's in love, and she leaves Guillermo with a lot of thinking to do.
Then, in the next episode, it seemed like Guillermo was about to come out to his vampire masters, or are they his wards now that he's a bodyguard and not a familiar? Either way, he was asked if he's dating anyone, men or women, but unfortunately, when he started to open up to them, he was interrupted.
After last night's episode, the developments can't be denied. The episode saw Guillermo, Nandor, and Nadja go to the Vampiric Counsel, while Lazlo (Matt Berry) and Colin Robinson went to a "boy's night" organized by one of Lazlo's human friends.
At one point, the human complains about how "Nandor and his boyfriend didn't even show up" to the boy's night, letting us know that we're not the only ones who see their relationship that way.
The show already features Lazlo, a pansexual and debaucherous vampire who happily has sex with people of all genders. But to add a cute same-sex couple to the show would be taking it to places we haven't seen, but definitely want to.
One of the best parts of the show has been the growth of Guillermo, who started off as a lowly familiar, who dreamed of becoming a vampire like his masters, but really was just walked all over. Over the last few seasons, we've seen him come into his own, realize he's a descendent of famous vampire hunter Van Helsing, and gotten more confident.
We love to see the growth that Guillermo has had in the last two seasons. He's become one of the most confident and cool characters on the show, and in the latest episode, he even sat on the throne of the Vampiric Council! You go Guillermo!
Developments in the Guillermo-Nandor ship (Guillerdor? Nandermo?) have been slow, but it seems that that's where this season is heading. And we can't wait to get there.
New episodes of What We Do in the Shadows air Thursday nights on FX.
