Same-Sex Couples Dominate Tumblr’s Most Popular Ships Again
Once again, the gays are winning!
Tumblr has released its year-end roundup of the platform's most popular fandom-related things, and as a part of it, they're letting us know who we shipped most throughout 2021! And it turns out (surprise, surprise,) we shipped the gays. Not only is every pairing in the top twenty a same-sex pairing, but 76 out of the top 100 are same-sex or queer pairings!
While most of the ships in the top 10 are made up of non-canon couples, like number one Destiel, number three Sambucky, and number four Bakudeku from My Hero Academia, there are also plenty of canon couples to be found!
Lumity, from Disney's The Owl House is the top canon pairing, coming in at number two overall! The ship is up five spots from last year, and it makes sense. This year on the show the couple, consisting of Luz Noceda and Amity Blight, became girlfriends in one of the most adorable animated TV episodes ever.
The next canon couple on the list is Catradora, the Catra and Adora ship from She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. Catradora, who were number two last year, have fallen to number nine on the list. Beau and Yasha from Critical Role are the next canon couple, at number 12.
The first male/male canon couple on the list is number 14, Wangxian. This ship consists of Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian, a pair of soulmates in the Chinese historical drama The Untamed, which is based on the manga Mo Dao Zu Shi.
Tarlos from 9-1-1: Lone Star jumped fifty(!!!) spots up the list to become the 38th most shipped couple on the website. With the new season starting tonight, we can only hope this couple jumps another few dozen spots up the list next year.
The first straight couple on the list is actually all the way down at number 23, and that's Ladybug and Chat Noir from Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. And out of the top 100 ships, only 24 total of them are male/female pairings.
This is the gay agenda.
