The theme of week five on Dancing With the Stars season 31 was "My Most Memorable Year." Throughout the night, the contestants served up performances to honor a year that marked their lives in a significant way. In Shangela's case, she referenced recovering from breaking a leg after doing a "death drop" (dip) back in 2013.
For this DWTS performance, Shangie danced to "Roar" by Katy Perry and gave viewers an incredibly emotional performance. The RuPaul's Drag Race superstar brought out her mother to be in the audience, as well as her drag mother, Alyssa Edwards.
Shangela provided further details about this performance on Instagram:
"'Dancing through the fire. Cuz I am a Champion and you're gonna hear me ROAR.' I felt the world dancing along with me last night. Thank you. Especially u Mom. Feeling every emotion still. Please y'all continue to VOTE and I vow I'll continue to bring every part of me to this ballroom until I can't no more. I really loved this dance."
Unfortunately, Shangela is currently placing low in the competition with a score of 32 as of the week five, night one episode that aired on Monday, October 17. She is tied with Jersey Shore star Vinny Guadagnino and actor Trevor Donovan - who both also have scores of 32.
The night two episode will air Tuesday, October 18, and Shangie will have a shot at redeeming herself and potentially getting saved from elimination.
If you love Shangie, now is the time to root for her on Dancing With the Stars!
Dancing With the Stars season 31 airs Mondays and Tuesdays on Disney+.
