A new docuseries exploring sexual relationships in New York City is headed to HBO Max.

Sex Diaries will share the stories of eight people navigating sex and dating, and searching for who they are through the process. It's based on the New York Magazine column of the same name which was launched in 2007 and revived in 2015. It currently has over 700 entries and a cult following.

The official description of the show reads:

"The verite portraits are woven together with video diaries that share personal reflections on dating, cultivating relationships and exploring sexual desire, and include check-ins with Alyssa Shelasky, editor of New York Magazine's Sex Diaries column, as diarists recount the ups and downs of their experiences. A contemporary look at a search for connection, Sex Diaries offers a range of unique explorations of sex, intimacy, and relationships today."

We get glimpses of these eight people's lives in the trailer. Some are madly in love, exploring BDSM, polyamorous, or as one gay puts it, "Maybe I'm a little addicted to casual sex." But, he says, "despite my sluttier tendencies, I am a sucker for romance."

Sex Diaries is a four-part series. The first two episodes are available to stream today, December 16, on HBO Max.
