Looks like the Euphoria drama isn't just in front of the camera!
Fans of HBO's hit, queer, teen drama series have definitely noticed that one of our favorite characters, Kat Hernandez, played by out actress Barbie Ferreira, has been largely absent from the currently airing second season. And now, it looks like we might know why.
The Daily Beast (which is not always known for its complete accuracy) is reporting that several production members have said that Ferreira, frustrated with the direction creator Sam Levinson is taking her character, has walked off set several times while filming this past year.
According to their reports, Ferreira is upset that her character's first season storylines about body positivity and self-discovery have been shelved for relationship drama and a new, vindictive version of the character who mostly exists in the background.
Ferreira is reportedly clashing with Levinson, and has spoken with him expressing her dislike for how the season is going. The talks reportedly broke down, leading to her storming off the set and Levinson continuing to cut her scenes.
Previously, Ferreira has been pretty tight-lipped about her character's story, or lack thereof, this year. "Kat's journey this season is a little more internal and a little mysterious to the audience," she said to The Cut. "She is secretly going through a lot of existential crises."
While viewership for Euphoria is staying high, many fans are dismayed with the direction the show has taken this year. The Daily Beast also reports that workdays on the show stretched from 15-17 hours this season and Levinson would rarely come to work with a shot list, making days even longer.
Despite the drama, Euphoria's popularity and viewership has increased and was recently renewed for a third season. The show also stars Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeney, Angus Cloud, Maude Apatow, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, and Eric Dane.
Euphoria airs Sunday nights at 6pm PT/9pm ET on HBO Max.
