World of Wonder has announced today that the RuPaul's Drag Race universe is expanding to Sweden, the land of IKEA, Robyn, and ABBA.
In the last few years, Drag Race has expanded into countries such as Thailand, the United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, Italy, Australia/New Zealand, and the Netherlands. Other international editions that are currently in production include Drag Race Philippines and Drag Race France.
World of Wonder co-founders Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey said in a statement, "Drag Race and the art of drag are worldwide phenomena that continue to attract global viewers, so we are thrilled to introduce a fierce new group of queens with Drag Race Sweden."
From the get-go, one should expect legendary lip syncs from Drag Race Sweden - the dominant country when it comes to mainstream pop music. From popstars like Robyn, Tove Lo, and Zara Larsson, to groups like ABBA, Roxette, The Cardigans, and Ace of Base, to DJs like Swedish House Mafia and Avicii, there's plenty of iconic Swedish pop music that can be featured in the upcoming series' lip syncs. It'd also be fantastic if some of these world-renowned musicians appeared on the show as guest judges. And who knows - maybe the werkroom will be furnished by IKEA!
Swedish fans will get to watch Drag Race Sweden on SVT, but the series will simultaneously stream around the globe on WOW Presents Plus. An official premiere date, cast, and further details have yet to be shared for the time being, but the upcoming series is expected to premiere later in 2022.
