Yes, the Penis in That 'The Boys' Scene Was Real
Season 3 of The Boys continues to get bigger and more shocking!
Editor's note: this post contains spoilers for the first three episodes of Amazon Prime Video's The Boys.
The Boys are back in town -- and they are pushing things farther than ever before.
The first three episodes of season 3 of Amazon Prime Video's edgy, gorey, and over-the-top superhero series The Boys premiered on Friday, and the first episode gave us a shocking scene unlike anything we had seen in the already extremely shocking show.
The scene centered around a shrinking superhero (a la Ant-Man) named Termite. When Kimoko (Karen Fukuhara) and Frenchie (Tomer Capone) are sent to investigate a wild party Termite is throwing, they find a bigger mess than they anticipated.
Termite is throwing a coke-fueled sex party, and after having sex with a Barbie-esque doll in front of party-goers, he goes into his room for a more private moment with his lover, played by Bruce Langley.
When his lover says "I want you inside me," we realize that he doesn't mean in his ass -- he means inside his penis. So Termite shrinks down, does some lines of coke, and calmly walks inside his lover's urethra, pressing on the inside in the ultimate act of sounding.
Unfortunately, nothing good lasts forever, and as he's heading towards the prostate, Termite sneezes, causing him to grow back to normal size and explode his lover from the inside-out.
It's a perfectly deranged and extreme stunt for The Boys, and a perfect way to incorporate some truly wild gay superhero sex into the universe. Since we've already seen Homelander get a blowjob from a shapeshifter who turned into Homelander, this was the obvious next step.
Showrunner Eric Kripke told Entertainment Weekly that writer Craig Rosenberg came up with the scene and is also responsible for the jaw-dropping dolphin rescue attempt in season one and the speedboat vs. whale moment in season 2.
"Once you realize you're gonna do a tiny Ant-Man character, you have to have that Ant-Man run up someone's butt and then blow them up," Kripke said of the scene's origin. "But then we realized that we already had blown up someone's ass (the superhero Translucent had a pipe bomb explode inside his anus in season 1). There's only so many orifices a person can go in. So really, by process of elimination, you run into a urethra."
In order to film the stunt, the production had to make a real, 11 foot-high, 30 foot-long penis for the actor to walk through. But the studio did have one note that Kripke and his crew needed to follow.
"You're not supposed to show an erect penis," Kripke said. "So we had to be very careful with the design of the penis -- 'cause we built it practically. That's a real 11-foot-high, 30-foot-long penis built at great expense. But if you look at it, we had to design in all these wrinkles to make it clear that it wasn't erect. So, anyway, it's exhibit 7,023 why I love this job."
To see what wild things happen next, watch the next episode of The Boys, premiering Friday on Amazon Prime Video.
