JoJo Siwa Is Guest Starring in 'High School Musical' Season 3
What time is it?! Summer time!!
Our favorite Wildcats are coming back once more, and we have a brand new preview for the upcoming third season of Disney+'s hit series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series!
In the new season, the Wildcats, and other teens from around the country, are spending their summer at Camp Shallow Lake, a sleepaway drama camp in California. There, they'll be performing Frozen, and trying to navigate romances, friendships, and all the high-stakes drama of putting on a play.
The third season of the GLAAD Award winning series, created and executive produced by Tim Federle, will feature songs from the Frozen, Camp Rock, and High School Musical franchises.
At the same time, Corbin Bleu is there, filming his own docu-series about the process of the play, and it seems Nini is off trying to get a serious career in music. What else is happening this year? Watch the trailer to find out!
The Wildcats are back!
While not all the Wildcats could go to camp, most will be there. The third season stars returning actors Joshua Bassett as Ricky, Sofia Wylie as Gina, Matt Cornett as E.J., Julia Lester as Ashlyn, Dara Renee as Kourtney, and Frankie Rodriguez as Carlos.
Drama for our faves!
The preview has plenty of drama for our favorite characters. It stars with E.J. (who is directing the musical), Gina, Kourtney, Carlos, and Ashlyn roadtripping together to camp, excited to meet the "mysterious guest celebrity" who will be joining them at camp. That celeb turns out to be High School Musical's own Corbin Bleu!
While Gina and E.J. are dating (Gina is excited for her first real summer camp, first real boyfriend, and first real audition for the lead), it looks like there could be another love triangle cooking up. When E.J. says that nothing's going to get in their way this summer, the trailer cuts to Gina and Ricky (who was her first kiss) laughing together!
Corbin Bleu makes his 'High School Musical' return!
Corbin Bleu is back in the HSM universe, playing himself this season. He's at Camp Shallow Lake to film his journey helping the kids put on the first ever camp production of Disney's Frozen: The Musical. Other recurring guest stars this year areMeg Donnelly as Val, Jason Earles as Dewey Wood, Kate Reinders as Miss Jenn, Aria Brooks as Alex, Liamani Segura as Emmy, Ben Stillwell as Channing, and Olivia Rodrigo as Nini.
There are new campers!
The preview gives us our best look at some of the new characters being introduced this season, including Adrian Lyles as Jet, and Saylor Bell Curda (above), who plays Maddox. From some scenes in the trailer, it appears that Maddox is queer, but more on that in a bit.
JoJo Siwa is coming to camp!!
The trailer also announces superstar dancer, singer, and icon JoJo Siwa as a new charactor!
In the trailer, Carlos goes to a '70s-themed dance where he sees Maddox, the counselor who took away the campers' phones in the beginning of the trailer -- and guess what? She's holding hands and dancing with none other than JoJo Siwa! Siwa will be playing Madison, a Camp Shallow Lake alum, who is apparently Maddox's girlfriend, or at least date.
If you peek in the background of one of the shots, it looks like Carlos' boyfriend Seb is there too! Joe Serafini is guest starring this season as Seb, along with Larry Saperstein as Big Red, and Olivia Rose Keegan as Lily.
And Jesse Tyler Ferguson is also on board!!!
We also get our first look at Tony winner Jesse Tyler Ferguson's guest role! He'll be playing Marvin, an old family friend of Nini's. It looks like he might be helping her on her journey to becoming a professional singer/songwriter.
The new season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series premieres July 27 on Disney+.
