"Boris [Johnson], I hope you see Heartstopper, I hope you see Doctor Who, because I exist, and I know you know I exist.”

We've been wildly excited to see the new series of Doctor Who since we heard that Heartstopper star Yasmin Finney will be joining the cast as a new character (or new version of the character) named Rose Tyler.

Now, thanks to an inspiring speech she made at Trans Pride, we now know that her character on the show will be trans.

Digital Spy was the one who recounted her words during a speech Finney made during the Trans Pride March in London.

"I love this so much," Finney said in her speech. "This is my first London Trans Pride. I feel so connected to my community more than ever. If the government is trying to eradicate us, we're all here and we're just duplicating."

While talking about visibility for trans people, she brought up her new role.

"How many of you have seen Doctor Who?" she started. "Yeah, because that is also a moment, and that is also a show where my character is trans. So, Boris [Johnson], I hope you see Heartstopper, I hope you see Doctor Who, because I exist, and I know you know I exist."

"For those of you that haven't seen, [Elle, her character on Heartstopper is] a Black trans girl, she's just moved to an all-girls school and she's trying to navigate the world in a society that's trying to eradicate her," Finney said.

"Having this representation on screen has made me realize how impactful it is," she added. "I hope that - well, of course the industry is changing, because I'm here. I'm here."

Yasmin will be starring in the new series of Doctor Who alongside Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa who has been cast as the new Doctor. She previously said how excited she was to be in the show, especially now that Russell T. Davies is also working on the show again.

"This show has a place in so many people's hearts, so to be seen as a trans actress by the legend himself Russell, has not only made my year, it's made my life. I cannot wait to begin this journey and for you all to see how Rose blossoms. Get Ready."
