The Amazing Race experienced a longer hiatus than most other reality competitions during the ongoing global pandemic due to its format of taking contestants on a trip around the world. With so many travel restrictions and countries facing local health crises, it seemed daunting - and downright impossible - for TAR to come back to television like other long-standing reality shows such as Big Brother and Survivor.
And yet, CBS was still able to air The Amazing Race season 32 given that it had been entirely filmed prior to the pandemic. That epic season also ended with gay couple Will Jardell & James Wallington winning the grand prize and even getting engaged at the grand finale. Then, for season 33, producers mostly focused on legs set in the U.S. for the safety of its contestants.
Now, The Amazing Race is ready to return to its globe-throttling roots with season 34, which is set to include legs in countries like Germany, Austria, France, Iceland, Italy, Jordan, and Spain. Another fun fact about TAR 34 is that it'll be the first cycle since season 15 to feature 12 teams of two. Between seasons 16 and 33, the show featured 11 teams instead. Thankfully, this new season will also feature a handful of LGBTQ+ contestants in the cast.
Scroll through to find out which LGBTQ+ contestants will be competing on season 34 of The Amazing Race, and make sure to watch the show when it premieres September 21 on CBS.

Claire Rehfuss became a reality TV star in 2021 as a contestant on Big Brother 23. Before, during, and after her time on the show, Rehfuss made it clear that she identifies as bisexual. After meeting Derek Xiao on BB23, they started to fall for each other and eventually got into an official relationship. Now, they'll be competing on The Amazing Race season 34 together as a couple.
