Ryan Murphy is diving back into the true crime genre.
Starring Evan Peters (Jeffrey Dahmer), Niecy Nash (Glenda Cleveland), Molly Ringwald (Shari Dahmer), Richard Jenkins (Lionel Dahmer), and Michael Learned (Catherine Dahmer), Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is the latest project to reexamine the story of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
Between 1978 and 1991, Dahmer murdered 17 people in acts that included cannibalism and necrophilia. There have been various projects in Hollywood revisiting Dahmer's story, as well as other notorious serial killers, in recent years.
Unlike other shows and docuseries about vile murderers, though, it appears that Dahmer will focus on the victims' stories rather than on the serial killer himself - which is a welcome change of pace. You can watch the first trailer of Dahmer below.
This is yet another collaboration between Peters and Murphy. Besides starring in the series as the titular character, Peters is also credited as an executive producer alongside Murphy, Ian Brennan, Janet Mock, Alexis Martin Woodall, and Carl Franklin.
The cast of Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story also features Sufyan Elmoumi as Club Patron, Khetphet Phagnasay as Southone Sinthasomphone, Karen Malina White as Shirley Hughes, Brayden Maniago as Somsack Sinthasomphone, and Phet Mahathongdy as Somdy Sinthasomphone, among others.
This Dahmer series is also poised to tackle storylines involving systemic racism and institutional failures, which are still prominent issues in the US as of 2022. Hopefully, this project will shine a light on the communities that are most impacted by those issues.
Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story premieres Wednesday, September 21 on Netflix.
