Throwback Thursday goes back to the glamour days of Shakespearean theater, with a cocktail twist.
On August 27, Live on Broadgay presents a second installment of its hilarious adaptation of Sex and The City -- with all the lead roles performed by gay men.
Live on Broadgay features some of New York's finest gay male comedians (and one straight woman) performing staged adaptations of queer-friendly works that rank among the plays of Shakespeare, Marlowe, and Chekhov, but also contemporary masterpieces such as Darren Starr's hit series, Sex and the City.
Directed by Adam Goldman (The Outs), UCB comedian Brandon Scott Jones stars as Carrie, a thirty-something sex columnist with a lot of boy troubles (sounds familiar?). As in the original show, there's no shortage of drama when she gets together with BFFs Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte, complete with designer bags, oversized blazer brooches, and sassy comebacks.
A cocktail reception will kick off the event, followed by a stand up comedy warm up with Courtney Maginnis and Emmy Blotnick. Afterwards, the theater will be transfomed into an exclusive gay club, DJ'd by DJ Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Dress-to-impress attire is encouraged, so why not channel your favorite SATC girl? Personally, I'm more of a Carrie by day, Samantha by night -- I like to wear a lot of (faux) fur in the winter, chain smoking cigarettes, and drinking martinis. What about you?
"Live on Broadgay" is showing at Littlefield, Brooklyn, Thursday, August 27th. Doors open at 7:30pm and the show begins at 8:30pm. Tickets: $8 in advance; $10 at the door. Click here for more information.
