Disney's 2013 animated film Frozen proved a runaway success, raking in $1.28 billion in global box office sales, and creators are still running with it. The Scandinavia-set story quickly took to the rink in Frozen on Ice and there was a short film, Frozen Fever, in 2015. ABC recently announced an upcoming special even as a Frozen 2 feature-length film is in the works, and now it's been confirmed: Frozen is coming to Broadway.
It was, of course, a natural move, following in the footsteps of Disney hits like Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Mary Poppins, and Aladdin. Slated for a 2018 debut, Frozen on Broadway has an all-star team behind it. Alex Timbers, Golden Globe Award and Obie winner, will direct, with Tony-winner Peter Darling choreographing. Additionally, the acclaimed team behind the film will be reprising their roles, with Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez writing lyrics and music and Jennifer Lee writing the book.
