'The Secret Life of Bees' is Coming to Off Broadway

The show will come to New York next spring.
Monk Kidd's novel The Secret Life of Bees is buzzing onto Off Broadway next spring at the Atlantic Theater Company.
The original music was written by Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening), lyrics by Susan Birkenhead, and a book by Lynn Nottage, whose won a Pulitzer Prize. The show will be directed by Fun Home's Sam Gold, also responsible for directing the workshop last year starring Orange Is The New Black's Uzo Aduba.

The show will go up next May 10, and run through June 23 at the Linda Gross Theater. Casting for the new production has not yet been announced.
Another new show in Atlantic Theater Company's upcoming season is The Mother, starring acclaimed French actress Isabelle Huppert.
The original Secret Life of Bees film starred Dakota Fanning, Jennifer Hudson, Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys, and Sophie Okonedo, and followed a group of women in a South Carolina town, exploring racial issues, beekeeping, and their own complex past.
