Billy Porter Sang a Song from Gypsy During Tonys Commercial Break

Billy Porter Sang a Song from ‘Gypsy’ During Tonys Commercial Break

Everything really is coming up roses.

Sunday night's Tony Awards were extremely gay -- which is nothing new. These are the Tonys we're talking about -- an awards show who audience is 99.9% gays and .01 percent their roommates who happened to be in the same room. But this year's Tonys were especially gay, with a red carpet homage to Pride, a historic win by bisexual wheelchair-user Ali Stoker (for Oklahoma!), an award honoring Judith Light's queer activism, and lesbian kiss during The Prom's performance.

And then, of course, there was Billy Porter, who pulled up to the awards show in a red and pink Celestino Couture concoction and stole the red carpet -- she brings it to you every award show, why y'all gagging so?

But Porter wasn't just there to look pretty, he had to sing for his supper -- literally. Host James Corden called on the Pose star during a commercial break to take part in his Broadway karaoke game, to which Porter replied: "I didn't come here to work tonight." Still, barely missing a beat, Porter launched into "Everything's Coming Up Roses" from Gypsy, because if you're going to perform an impromptu number at the Tonys, it's Gypsy or bust. "Oh, you're changing the key?" Porter teases the accompanies. Key change or not, he got along just fine.

Billy Porter as Mama Rose in a queer retelling of Gypsy? I would like to see it.
