Erika Jayne is ready to rouge her knees and roll her stockings down. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star is reportedly set to play aspiring singer and actual murderer Roxie Hart in the Tony Award-winning revival of Chicago.
Jayne has a long career as a singer, having nine number-one songs on the Billboard Dance Club Songs charts, including her debut single, 2007's "Roller Coaster." But despite her vocal chops, the show -- which will begin a 12-week limited run in January 2020 -- will mark her Broadway debut.
"I'm beyond excited to join the cast of the legendary musical Chicago," she told People, "Having been a fan of Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon's work, it is an honor and a dream to play Roxie Hart."
Chicagois a staple of the Great White Way, credited as the longest-running American musical in history. Gwen Verdon originated the role of Roxie, a wannabe vaudeville performer who becomes an overnight sensation after murdering her husband; the iconic show has a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, who was Verdon's husband. Ebb wrote the lyrics, while Jon Kander created the music.
Numerous famous starlets have taken on the role of Roxie over the years, which has become something of a rite of passage. Those who have stepped into her tap shoes include everyone from Melanie Griffith to Brandy Norwood and Ashlee Simpson.
That diverse array of names also includes several other stars of the Real Housewives franchise. Jayne's costar on RHOBH, Lisa Rinna, played Roxie back in 2007, and since then, Real Housewives of Atlanta stars NeNe Leakes and Kandi Burrus both made their Broadway debuts as Matron Mama Morton.
It's going to be an exciting three months on Broadway until the show closes on March 29. We can't wait to watch what happens live.
