Fans of Jonathan Groff, the cover star of Out's latest Pride issue, will finally get a chance to see him do a number from his hit Broadway musical Merrily We Roll Along without having to visit New York City!
Groff, alongside fellow Tony nominees Lindsay Mendez and Daniel Radcliffe, will be performing a number from the musical revival at the upcoming 77th Annual Tony Awards.
The Looking actor earned the third Tony nomination of his career for his role in Merrily, having previously been nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for Spring Awakening, and Best Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical for Hamilton.
While Merrily is a musical about straight people with a gay star, another musical about queer people will also get a featured performance at this year's awards: Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club nominees and stars Gayle Rankin (Sally Bowles) and Eddie Redmayne (the Emcee).
Other performances at the ceremony will be from The Outsiders (with nominees Joshua Boone, Brody Grant, and Sky Lakota-Lynch), Hell's Kitchen (with nominees Shoshana Bean, Brandon Victor Dixon, Kecia Lewis, and Maleah Joi Moon), the Sufjan Stevens musical Illinoise, Suffs (with nominees Nikki M. James and Shaina Taub), The Who's Tommy, and Water for Elephants (with Grant Gustin).
Between all of the stage productions honored this year, the musical Hell's Kitchen (featuring music and lyrics by Alicia Keys) and the play Stereophonic have earned the most nominations with 13 each. The Outsiders is up next with 12, followed by Cabaret with 9 noms, the play Appropriate starring Sarah Paulson with 8, and the musicals Merrily and Water for Elephants with 7 each.
Last but certainly not least, our queen Ariana DeBose will host for the third year in a row!
The 77th Annual Tony Awards ceremony is scheduled to air on Sunday, June 16 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on CBS while streaming on Paramount+.
